Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
This policy explains how High Key Interactive ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares personal information in connection with:
- the A Gift for Hazel: Workshop app for iPhone and Android (the "App");
- our websites, including hazel.highkeyinteractive.com and the present pages at gift.highkeyinteractive.com (the "Sites"); and
- our emails and other communications about A Gift for Hazel
(together, the "Services").
High Key Interactive is a business name registered to Nicholas Brooking, a sole trader based in New South Wales, Australia. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us at haikey.build@gmail.com.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Presents. When you send a present from the App, we receive and store what makes it up: the piece you made, its wrapping, the names you write on the tag (for example, yours and the recipient's), your note and its title. We also record which App installations sent presents to which, using the installations' random identifiers, so that presents reach the right App and people can reply.
- Email address. If you sign up for updates, or ask us to email you a link to the game, we collect your email address and a record of what you agreed to receive.
- Reports. If you report a present, we receive the report and any reason you give.
- Support conversations. If you use the App's chat with us (for help or feedback), we receive your messages, the App's platform and version and, if you choose, your name and email address. If you have already given us your email address, the chat shows it and you can leave it off.
- Messages to us. If you contact us, we keep your message and our reply.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage information, such as your type of device, operating system and browser, the App version, the pages and screens you view, the buttons you use, how long you stay, the website that referred you, and the campaign information in the link you followed (for example, campaign tags and ad click identifiers). In the App this includes diagnostic information such as your device model, operating system version, App version, crashes and performance.
- Approximate location. We derive your country from your IP address. We do not collect your precise location.
- IP address and identifiers. Your IP address is processed whenever you use the Services. The App creates a random identifier when it is installed, which we use for our statistics (section 4) and so that other people can block presents from your App. To prevent abuse, we keep one-way, salted hashes of IP addresses, of email addresses and of that identifier, rather than the values themselves.
- Cookies, pixels and software development kits from us and from our analytics and advertising partners, as described in section 4.
Information from others
- If someone sends you a present, it may include your name as they wrote it.
- Advertising and analytics partners give us reports about the performance of our ads, which are generally aggregated.
Information that stays on your device
Your pieces, projects and settings, the presents you have received and the senders you have blocked are stored on your device. They are not sent to us, except for the presents you choose to send. Deleting the App deletes them.
2. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide the Services: to store and deliver presents, show them to whoever opens their link, and open them in the App;
- keep the Services safe: to limit abuse, filter offensive words, handle reports, let people block senders, and investigate misuse;
- communicate with you: to send you what you asked for (such as a link to the game), occasional updates about A Gift for Hazel if you agreed to receive them, and replies to your messages and support conversations;
- understand and improve the Services, using statistics about how they are used;
- advertise A Gift for Hazel on other platforms and measure how well our advertising works (section 4); and
- comply with the law, enforce our terms, and protect our rights and the rights and safety of others.
Where the law requires a legal basis for using personal information (for example, in the United Kingdom), we rely on: the performance of our agreement with you, to provide the Services you ask for; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, understanding and improving the Services; your consent, for marketing emails and, where the law requires it, for advertising cookies, pixels and tracking; and compliance with our legal obligations. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
3. Presents can be seen by anyone with the link
A present can be opened by anyone who has its link, and messaging apps may show its title and picture in a link preview. Please don't put anything on a present that you wouldn't want others to see, and use only first names or nicknames on the tag. Presents pass through a filter for offensive words. Anyone can report a present from the present itself, and you can ask us to remove a present you sent (section 8).
4. Analytics, advertising and cookies
- Our own statistics. We record visits and actions on the Sites and in the App, such as the screens and pages viewed, the buttons used and how far people get, using our own tools. On the Sites, these statistics do not use cookies or a lasting identifier. In the App, they are linked to the random identifier the App creates when it is installed. They are not linked to your name or email address.
- Web analytics. Our hosting provider also gives us cookieless analytics about visits to the Sites.
- Advertising on the Sites. We advertise A Gift for Hazel on social media, search and other advertising platforms. When you arrive on the Sites from one of these ads, the platform's pixel (a small piece of code) may set cookies and collect information such as your IP address, device and browser details, the pages you view, the actions you take (such as tapping a wishlist button or signing up) and the ad you came from. On these pages, a platform's pixel may also detect an email address or phone number you type into the page, including into our sign-up form, convert it in your browser into a one-way hashed form, and send that to the platform so it can match your visit to an account you have with it. We may also send the same event information to the platform directly from our servers. The platforms use this information to measure and improve our ads, to attribute visits and sign-ups to them, and to show our ads to people who have visited the Sites. They may combine it with other information they hold about you, under their own privacy policies.
- Advertising and analytics in the App. We may use analytics and advertising measurement tools in the App, including tools provided by advertising platforms and the app stores' own attribution features, to understand installs and use and to measure our ads. On iPhone and iPad, we only track you across apps and websites owned by other companies (as Apple defines tracking) if you give permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Security checks. Our sign-up forms use a security service that may analyse your IP address and browser to tell people from automated bots.
Your choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and change your ad preferences with the advertising platforms you use. On iPhone and iPad you can turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" in Settings; on Android you can delete or reset your advertising ID in your device's settings. Where we ask for your consent to advertising cookies and pixels, you can change your choice at any time from the link at the bottom of the Sites' pages.
5. How we share information
We do not sell personal information for money. We share personal information only:
- with service providers that host, store, deliver and secure the Services and provide our email, document and productivity tools, acting on our instructions;
- with advertising and analytics partners, as described in section 4, including hashed email addresses typed into our ad pages;
- with Apple and Google, who run the app stores through which you get the App and handle information under their own terms and privacy policies (for example, downloads and any crash reports you choose to share);
- with the people you send presents to, and anyone else who has a present's link (section 3);
- where we believe it is necessary to comply with the law or a lawful request, to protect anyone's safety, rights or property, or to investigate abuse; and
- with a buyer or successor, if our business or the Services are transferred, subject to this policy.
Some privacy laws, including some US state laws, treat sharing information with advertising partners for targeted advertising as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. You can opt out of this as described in sections 4 and 8.
6. Where information is stored
Our service providers and partners store and process information in Australia, the United States and other countries, which may have data protection laws different from those where you live. When personal information is transferred overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected in line with this policy and applicable law.
7. How long we keep information
- Presents: for as long as the present's link is active, until you ask us to remove it, or until it is removed after a report.
- Records of which App installations sent presents to which: as long as the presents they relate to.
- Email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Abuse-prevention hashes of IP and email addresses: up to 30 days. The hash of the App's random identifier is kept with each present it sent, for as long as the present is kept, so that people can block its sender.
- Reports: as long as we need them to deal with the report and prevent further abuse.
- Technical logs, including browser and network details: as long as we need them to operate, secure and improve the Services.
- Statistics linked to an App installation's identifier: up to 26 months. Statistics that don't identify anyone may be kept indefinitely.
- Support conversations in the App: deleted automatically 12 months after the last message, or sooner if you ask.
- Messages to us by email: as long as we need them to handle your request and keep proper records.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, to receive a copy of it, to withdraw your consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information.
Every update email we send tells you how to unsubscribe, and you can also unsubscribe by replying to it. To have your data deleted, follow the steps on our Delete your data page. For any other request, email haikey.build@gmail.com. We may need to confirm the request is yours, for example by asking you to write from the email address concerned or, for a present, to share its link from the App that sent it. Because the App has no accounts, we may not be able to connect some information, such as statistics, to you. We will respond within the time the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
If you have a concern, please contact us first. You can also complain to your privacy regulator, such as the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
9. Children
The Services are intended for a general audience of teenagers and adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the older age set by the law where they live. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls and the hashing of identifiers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
11. Other services
The Services link to services run by others, such as the Steam store, the app stores and social media platforms. Their own privacy policies apply to them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, give notice in the App or on the Sites.
